Travel Dust

Chronicling the travel memories, musings, and desires of a tropical city girl out to see the world one backpack at a time.
I Likey
One important lesson I learned with only a few ringgits in my pocket is this: Know what terminal your airline is in. I thought there was only one airport in Kota Kinabalu, given the photo in google maps above. What google maps doesn’t tell you is that the old airport serves as the budget terminal and it is only connected to the main airport via the runway! This is where I arrived via Air Asia.
When I told the cab driver at the hotel “Airport.” He said, “Air Asia?” I said, “Huh?” He said, “You ride Air Asia?” In my half-awake state I said yes because, in all honesty, I really did not understand what he said. And I processed in my head, “I rode Air Asia going here.” I only realized what he really said when we were entering the old airport and I saw the signs outside that listed the airlines. I then told the driver, “Umm…Uncle, I’m taking Jet Star.” He pulled over - in front of the unloading zone, and looked at me. I repeated, “I’m riding Jet Star.” I think I even said I’ll just take a transfer or walk it. Apparently, I can’t walk it. He drove me for what seemed eternity to get to the much bigger and nicer airport.
I still had change of 4 or 5 ringgit. I bought a vanilla cone at McDonald’s with it after checking-in.
edit: My map label is wrong. Point C is supposed to be at the end of the map.
